About craic.nz
craic.nz is a free, independent collection of practical resources for information management, privacy and information security professionals working across the New Zealand public sector.
Why it exists
Good information practice in government rests on a handful of well-understood frameworks, the Public Records Act 2005, the Privacy Act 2020, the Protective Security Requirements and the New Zealand Information Security Manual among them. The thinking is rarely the hard part. The hard part is having a sensible starting point in front of you when you need it: a register you can fill in, a prompt that asks the right questions, a guide that explains the essentials without forty pages of preamble.
This site collects those starting points in one place, free to use and reuse. There is nothing to buy, no account to create and no newsletter to join.
What is here
- AI prompts for tasks such as gap analysis against the NZISM, drafting a Privacy Impact Assessment, reasoning about disposal under the Public Records Act 2005, and preparing information sharing agreements.
- Templates including an Information Asset Register, a Retention and Disposal Schedule, a Section 23 transfer notification, an Information Sharing Agreement skeleton and disposal review forms.
- Guides that explain the NZ classification system, disposal basics and the responsible use of AI in information work, plus a directory of trusted NZ Government links.
Everything is written to be generic. It can be adapted to any agency without naming any agency.
How to use it
Browse the library, then view, copy or download whatever is useful. The full set is also available in the public GitHub repository, organised by type, where you are welcome to suggest changes or additions.
Contributions
Corrections, improvements and new resources are welcome. The simplest way is to email a suggestion, or to open an issue or pull request on GitHub. Contributions should keep to the same principle: generic, reusable and free of any agency-specific or personal detail.
Contact
The only contact point is email: Sam@craic.nz.
